Mission in Ethiopia

June 2024

During these 2 weeks of mission in Ethiopia 🇪🇹, a team of 4 surgeons, including Dr Béatrix, Dr Blanchet, Dr Passot, and Dr Vaudoyer, accompanied by Grégoire Béatrix for logistical support, continued their training efforts at the hospitals of Goba and Asella.

This mission also allowed us to expand our activities to new sites, notably in Addis Ababa at the Yekatit 12 Hospital, as well as in Adama, in partnership with the MIS Africa association, which brings together Ethiopian surgeons specialized in laparoscopy. At the same time, theoretical training sessions on simulators were organized, supplemented by the donation of 2 additional simulators, thereby enhancing the skills of local practitioners.

Thanks to this successful partnership, new centers for training and practicing laparoscopy have been established and have developed independently. Even in our absence, Ethiopian surgeons continue to regularly perform minimally invasive procedures, such as gallbladder removal and appendectomies, resulting in simpler postoperative outcomes and shorter hospital stays for patients.
